Feds seek public input on hacker sentencing
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2003-01-13

Sick and tired of a revolving door justice system that lets hackers skate with just a few measly years in prison? Or do you think that the courts are already too hard on online miscreants who sometimes go up the creek for longer than many killers?

How can you compare lost of money and lost of life?

You need to set your priorities straight!

There is a big difference between crime against human life and crime against anything else. Everything else is repairable, humans are not. Sure, people braking into systems should be punished, but in no way shape performed should they be compared to murderers and rapists.

These days, convicting a murderer is quite accurate with all the technology (DNA, blood test for example).

How reliable are the logs of a web server and logs of the ISP? Things that are under the control of so many people?

How would you feel of going for life in prison because the fedz claim that the logs they have (with your IP address, not your DNA) are bulletproof.
