Feds seek public input on hacker sentencing
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2003-01-13

Sick and tired of a revolving door justice system that lets hackers skate with just a few measly years in prison? Or do you think that the courts are already too hard on online miscreants who sometimes go up the creek for longer than many killers?

If someone is "stupid enough to do such a thing" then they should also be held accountable for their gross negligence.

This situation is not solely the fault of "hackers", but also the fault of people using technology of which they are entirely ignorant. Companies should be held to standards when putting critical machines on a public network. If they do not meet said standards, they should be punished just as the hacker is, for they are just as responsible for any incurred losses.
