Feds seek public input on hacker sentencing
Kevin Poulsen, SecurityFocus 2003-01-13

Sick and tired of a revolving door justice system that lets hackers skate with just a few measly years in prison? Or do you think that the courts are already too hard on online miscreants who sometimes go up the creek for longer than many killers?

Before Sentencing, Setting The Standards - Guidelines - 2003-01-15
Your Everyday Internaut <sabb66 (at) hotmail (dot) com [email concealed]>
Of all the "viewpoints" posted on this discussion board, I believe (imho) that a single user was able to demonstrate reliable guidelines (in terms of ethical laws against "hackers" and computer-related crimes). Surely, his multilateral assimilation of the conditions and premises that are to be taken in consideration before arriving to any judgement upon this issue could not have been better discussed even by a lawyer. Thus, these few guidelines should be built upon in order to establish an ethical definition for computer crimes and sentencing for such convicted offenders or so-called "hax0rs". Keep in mind that hackers are people who use their computer skills/knowledge FOR GOOD OR FOR BAD... For instance reverse engineering (which is often considered a crime)is mostly used by skilled hackers to crack codes and recompose them in order to understand their algorithms and prevent its vulnerabilities from being taken advantage by other malicious hackers! Overall, we must understand the New Technological Order and its environment before setting any laws...

Here is that post I was referring to earlier:
