FBI: Businesses Loath To Report Hacks

Ninety percent of businesses and government agencies suffered hacker attacks within the past year, yet only a third of those businesses reported the intrusions to law enforcement, an FBI survey found.

System administrator's fault? Please...

Is it the SA's responsibility to secure their systems? Of course.

Is it the SA's responsibility to respond to an incident? Maybe.

Is it the SA's responsibility to report an incident to law enforcement? NEVER - and one that does should be (and probably will be) fired. Only the corporation's board or president or other higher up should report an incident - and probably only after talking seriously with their own internal Legal Department and/or with the corporation's legal counsel.
