FBI: Businesses Loath To Report Hacks

Ninety percent of businesses and government agencies suffered hacker attacks within the past year, yet only a third of those businesses reported the intrusions to law enforcement, an FBI survey found.

Besides, what should they report to the FBI?

Network intrusions from an outside source: Yes.

Pornography by an employee: No

Viruses: No

Worms: No

Port scans: No, it is not illegal

A majority of the attacks listed here are not federal offenses, so they shouldn't be reported. If someone breaks into the network from the Internet, call the FBI!! If it is little stuff that doesn't require criminal investigations, who would report it?
