FBI: Businesses Loath To Report Hacks

Ninety percent of businesses and government agencies suffered hacker attacks within the past year, yet only a third of those businesses reported the intrusions to law enforcement, an FBI survey found.

Is it just me, or does this article seem to be using raw numbers in an emotional rather than logical way (funny how statistics seem to be used this way so often in the media). No attempt is made to explain or clarify the statistics, they are used starkly for their shock value. What are they selling?

In this case, the obvious product is legislation.

I feel left out. Only one of the companies I've worked at was ever compromised, and that company really shouldn't have left their entire internal net exposed to the internet with no filtering.
