At a basic level, arson is arson. No matter the circumstances. Look, if I develop a virus, I know what I am doing and the level of potential harm which can be done. To say "oh I created Melissa (or whatever) but didn't know it would cause harm" is ludicrous.

If you attack my network in any fashion, and I catch you, my firm will pursue all legal avenues, criminal and civil. We will make your life miserable. We do not care if you are 13 or 63.

People forget that hacking and virus release is a crime which costs companies money (tangible and intangible) and is thus that same as any crime: theft, arson, B&E, blackmail, etc. and should be treated that way.
